Home Staging and furniture arrangement. One of my favorite tricks in staging or refreshing a space is to start from scratch. Whether you are looking at an arrangement of furniture, or an arrangement of pieces on a shelf, it is harder to be truly creative when you are looking at something that is already set. In my mind, it is similar to writing and editing. When I want to create something new from something old, rather than edit the original, I will start anew and refer back to the original. That way I am not handcuffed by something that doesn’t work simply because it is already there in black and white. So back to the home…remove as much as you can from the space you are staging. This way you can really start from scratch. There are probably some pieces that you definitely want to re-use and some that you most certainly want to lose. Also, try to think of staging as a process: Moving and looking, arranging and re-arranging, trial and error. (Remember, there is no prize for using all the old pieces in the new configuration. Less is always more.)
